Analysis of Class 10 English Literature Paper 2020

The English Literature paper consisted of 80 marks having a duration of two hours. Candidates were required to answer five questions from ONLY three of the prescribed textbooks, one of which must be drama, one prose, and one poetry.

The questions were direct and easy. Although chapters like Blue bead from Prose and extract of Launcelot and Gobbo from Merchant of Venice were least expected, yet the questions were so easy and direct that anyone who had studied the textbooks thoroughly could have found it easy.

Importance of English Literature Paper in Board Exams

English is one of the most important subjects in ICSE 10 examination. In the marking system, the two English papers, English Literature, and English language are included in one broad category – English. The marks for these subjects are not calculated separately but the average of the two papers is taken as the marks for English.

English is a compulsory subject. Its marks have to be included in the marks of the best of five subjects. That is why it is important to do well in both the English papers. Marks of a single subject are going to affect not only the grade of the category but also the overall percentage of a student.
